While I started teaching friends about knitting and crochet some time in elementary school, I truly began teaching one-on-one and to groups in 2022...
My approach to teaching knitting and crochet involves meeting you wherever you're at in terms of skill level and learning style. I will demonstrate, re-word, and draw diagrams until a skill or technique "clicks" for you.
Making (and fixing) mistakes is all a part of the process... even if you've been knitting for nearly two decades.
It's never too late to start learning a new skill!
Shoot me an email at SammichOfSquid@gmail.com requesting a lesson (or group class!)
My rates are based on the number of learners participating!
1 Learner - $40/hour ($20/half-hour)
2 or 3 Learners - $30 per learner/hour ($15 per learner/half-hour)
4 to 6 Learners - $30 per learner/hour (1 hour minimum)*
7 to 10 Learners - $200/hour (1 hour minimum)**
*when it comes to teaching 4 to 6 people at the same time, a half-hour to attend to everyone participating becomes difficult, hence the 1 hour minimum.
**I consider teaching 7 to 10 people more of a class than a private lesson. In this case there will be more demonstration and a little less one-on-one time.
Exceptions to these rates will be made for nonprofit fundraising and libraries.
What style of knitting do you teach? I knit Continental and English style. If there is one of the two you would prefer to learn as a beginner (or if you have already started knitting in one of the two and want to be taught in the style you're already familiar with) just let me know!
Do you only teach adults? Will you teach my child? I will absolutely teach kiddos who are enthusiastic about learning fiber arts! I started learning to knit, crochet, and weave around the age of four; it's all about their level of interest and patience.
As a side note: I provided childcare around my neighborhood throughout middle school and high school and feel confident in my communication skills with youngins :)
What if I want to learn a technique or skill you don't know? I will always be honest about what I can and cannot teach (and will do my very best to point you in the direction of a learning resource that will be of help to you). However, with enough time I am more than happy to do my own research and practice before teaching.
